What Are the Potential Risks, Complications, and Shortfalls of Tummy Tuck Surgery?

Scars — The trade off for your flatter and tighter abdomen will be surgical scars that are permanent. While no surgeon, however skilled, can perform surgery without scars, scars do usually fade with time, taking up to 18 months. Some people are genetically predisposed to bad scarring, or even formation of keloids or hypertrophic scars. While it is generally perceived that only dark-skinned people develop Keloids, the fact is that light-skinned people and people from all ethnic backgrounds can develop Keloids, hypertrophic, or “bad scars”. The plastic surgeon and/or his staff review the place of Tummy Tuck or Body Lift scars with every patient prior to surgery, in order to place them in a location that can be better hidden by bathing suits or underwear.

Bleeding — It is possible, though uncommon, to experience some bleeding during or after surgery. Should excessive bleeding occur, it might require a blood transfusion, or even emergency surgery. But most commonly, localized small amounts of blood collected under the skin (hematoma) can be easily treated through aspiration or the placement of a drain. Dr. Younai, like majority of other plastic surgeons, routinely uses drains that help remove any excess fluid or blood collection.

To reduce the chance and risk of bleeding with surgery, you must not take any blood thinners, such as aspirin, anti-inflammatory, or vitamin E for 10 days prior and after your surgery.

Infection — There is a very small chance of developing infection after any surgery. You will be given antibiotics during your surgery and be given a prescription for antibiotics to take after your surgery, in order to reduce the risk of infection.

Pain — While people have varying thresholds for pain, it is an expected result from any surgery. This can be addressed through a prescribed medication from your cosmetic surgeon. Nevertheless, you should be aware that although pain medications do help reduce the degree of pain and make it more tolerable, there is no pain medication that will completely eliminate pain.

Nausea — Anesthetics, narcotics, and antibiotics do cause nausea. You will be prescribed an anti-nausea medication, both just-before, during, and after your surgery. Taking your medications with food helps to reduce the incidence and degree of post-operative nausea.

Persistent Swelling & Bruising — It is normal for skin of the abdomen, navel, genitalia, buttocks, and thighs to become inflamed, swollen, and bruised following the surgery, and to remain so for some weeks. I n rare cases, this can persist for many months or can even be permanent if patient has poor circulation. To minimize swelling and bruising after surgery patients are required to wear a support garment 24 hours a day for three weeks, and then only during the daytime for the following three weeks. Massaging these areas as much as three to four times a day is also very helpful. It is normally expected for the skin to become dry and itchy after surgery. Massaging with heavy lotion and skin moisturizer is essential. You do not need expensive creams to do so – Vaseline, Vitamin E, or any kind of greasy lotion will do. It’s the grease that does the trick! It is good, when possible, to have your spouse or significant other to perform the massage. This helps to accustom a couple to your new look, and to reduce any trepidation that you may both be feeling.

Change in Skin Sensation — The area of abdomen, pubic area, flanks, and parts of the thighs do become numb, after this surgery. This usually resolves gradually over three to eight months, but you can have residual permanent loss of sensation or even hyper-sensitivity in some areas.

Itching, tenderness, or exaggerated responses to hot or cold temperatures may occur after Tummy Tuck, Body Lift, or Thigh Lift, but is usually short-lived and can be alleviated by moisturizing, medication, and massage.

Sutures — Most surgical techniques use deep sutures, which might spontaneously poke through the skin, become visible, or produce irritation that might require removal.

Skin Contour Irregularities — Contour and shape irregularities and depressions may occur after a tummy tuck, body lift, or thigh lift. Residual skin irregularities at the ends of the incision or “dog ears” are always possible as is skin pleating when there is excessive redundant skin. These do usually improve with massage over time, but may require surgical correction.

Fat Necrosis — As your tissues heal after surgery, sometime, some of the deeper skin fat might die. Usually, this is of no consequence, but sometimes it might produce areas of firmness or contour irregularities.

Pubic Distortion — One of the benefits of Tummy tuck and Body Lift is the lifting and flattening of the protruding and sagging pubic skin. Rarely, women develop distortion of their labia and pubic area. Usually, this corrects itself, but sometimes corrective surgery is required.

Asymmetry — Most patients have differences between the right and left sides of their body before any surgery is performed, and surgery might not be able to correct that. Therefore, even after a Tummy Tuck or Body Lift, there may not be perfect symmetry in the body’s appearance. Factors such as skin tone, fatty deposits, skeletal prominence, and muscle tone may contribute to normal asymmetry in body features.

Wound Separation & Delayed Healing — Wound disruption or delayed wound healing is possible. Some areas of the surgical incision in the flank, back, or buttock may not heal normally and may take weeks to heal. Some areas of the skin may even die. This may require frequent dressing changes or surgery to remove the non-healed tissue and to close the wounds secondarily. Smokers and those with diabetes, multiple medical problems, and severe obesity have a greater risk of skin loss and wound healing complications.

Seroma — Fluid accumulations frequently occur between the skin and the abdominal wall, legs, flanks, back, or buttocks. Dr. Younai, as well as, many other plastic surgeons routinely use drains in these areas in order to remove excess fluid. If you develop seroma, it can easily be drained in the doctor’s office.

Umbilicus — Malposition, scarring, unacceptable appearance or loss of the umbilicus or belly button may occur.

Allergic Reactions- In rare cases, local allergies to tape, suture material and glue, blood products, topical preparations or injected agents have been reported. Serious systemic reactions including shock (anaphylaxis) may occur from drugs used during surgery and prescription medications. Allergic reactions may require additional treatments.

“Blood Clots” (Deep Venous Thrombosis, Cardiac & Pulmonary Complications) — Lengthy procedures may be associated with the formation of, or increase in, blood clots in the veins in the legs while you are immobilized, with the risk that they will travel to other parts of your body, including your lungs. Pulmonary embolism can be life threatening or fatal in some circumstances. You can reduce this risk by moving as soon as possible following your surgery. It is important to discuss with your surgeon any past history of blood clots, swollen legs or the use of estrogen or birth control pills that may contribute to this condition. After surgery, if you experience shortness of breath, chest pain, or an irregular heartbeat, notify your doctor and seek medical attention immediately. Treatment of this complication may require hospitalization and additional treatments.

Damage to Deeper Structures — As with any surgery there is a rare potential for injury to deeper structures including, nerves, blood vessels, muscles, and lungs (pneumothorax). Treatment may require further surgery and hospitalization.

Shock — In rare circumstances, your surgical procedure can cause severe trauma, particularly when multiple or extensive procedures are performed. Although serious complications are infrequent, infections or excessive fluid loss can lead to severe illness and even death. If surgical shock occurs, hospitalization and additional treatments would be necessary.

Angelina Cooper is pleased to provide you with an abundant amount of insight and information on LIPOSUCTION cosmetic surgery – including tips, suggestions, prices and recovery. With the following 100 Q&A’s, you will gain an indepth knowledge and thorough grasp of LIPOSUCTION in order to decide whether a LIPO is right for you.

81)How Long does the Tumescent Liposuction surgery take?

The length of Tumescent Liposuction surgery depends on what needs to be done and where. Some patients ask for only one small area to be sculpted, while others have many regions treated. It can take from 45 minutes for a small case to six or more hours for more extensive surgery.

82) What garment do I wear after Tumescent Liposuction?

Stabilizing your tissues in a special garment increases your comfort and ability to do things. Your tissues will be more comfortable after Tumescent Liposuction when they are not jiggling around. Compression also helps control swelling and bruising. Our patients wear this for about six weeks full time and then part time for 2 more weeks. Different styles are available for the various zones treated by the Tumescent Liposuction. We help fit our patients in an elastic garment specially designed for this surgery. A girdle like pants is used for the buttocks and thighs. An elastic vest is used for the male chest. Hooks and zippers on side openings assist in getting the garments on and taking them off.

83) Can I gain weight after Tumescent Liposuction surgery?

Tumescent Liposuction removes fat cells from localized parts of the body. Some cells are left behind intentionally. If too much fat is removed, the skin will stick unnaturally to the underlying muscle and tissues. The remaining fat cells can still store unused energy. For those who eat more than they use with exercise, the extra energy will be put away as fat. The distribution of where you put on the fat may be different after Tumescent Liposuction surgery.

84) Will Tumescent Liposuction get me rid of cellulite?

Cellulite is a condition that gives the skin a rippled, dimpled appearance. Tumescent Liposuction is not an effective treatment for cellulite.

85) Can I have Tumescent Liposuction done in combination with other procedures?

Yes. Tumescent Liposuction can be performed on several areas of the body at the same time. The Suction Lipectomy can be combined with other aesthetic operations. It can be integrated into a Facelift, Neck Lift, Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck), Mini-Tummy Tuck, Brazilian Butt Augmentation-Lift and other body contouring operations.

86) What is the cost for Tumescent Lipo? Anesthesia cost? Fee cost?

The price for Liposuction varies, depending on how many areas are treated. There are fees for the surgeon, for use of a facility and for anesthesia if it is required. The surgeon’s fee for Liposuction of the abdomen and love handles would typically cost approximately $2,200-$3,000 USD. Anesthesia and facility fees can vary greatly; the ballpark range is around $500-$1,000 for the facility fee and $400-$750 USD for anesthesia. But again, if your skin is stretched out with bad stretch marks, it may be better off with an abdominoplasy (Tummy Tuck). It’s recommended to make an appointment for a consultation with a plastic surgeon to get a better idea of desired goals and needs.

87) What are the benefits of Tumescent Liposuction?

Tumescent Liposuction can significantly reduce some of the unpleasant side effects of other techniques. Because the anesthetic solution temporarily reduces the size of the capillaries, it can significantly reduce blood loss during surgery and the pain, bruising, and swelling that occur post-surgery. And because Tumescent Liposuction provides local anesthesia, patients can avoid the side effects of general anesthesia, such as vomiting and nausea.

88) Can I undergo Tumescent Liposuction for weight loss purposes?

Tumescent Liposuction is not a good way to lose weight. Actually, very little weight is removed by this operation. Suction lipectomy is a technique to sculpt localized collections of fat. It is a tool of refinement. You are better off getting closer to your ideal weight first and then using plastic surgery to refine the resistant localized problem areas. Some doctors are trying to expand the boundaries of safe Tumescent Liposuction by removing massive amounts of fat from very obese people. This large volume Liposuction has very significant risks and can be dangerous despite some excellent results.

89) Will Tumescent Liposuction helps me with loose skin?

Tumescent Liposuction does not help loose skin. Suction lipectomy removes extra fat only. When skin has good elasticity, it shrinks nicely after fat sculpture. Excess fat and skin are better managed by operations such as tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), thigh lift, arm lift, and face lift or neck lift. It can be confusing for a patient to figure what type of plastic surgery is best for their problem on their own. At cosmetic Harmony we help our patients explore the array of plastic and cosmetic surgery options best suited for the patient’s desired results.

90) What areas are treated by Tumescent Liposuction?

In women the most frequently areas treated by Tumescent Liposuction are the outer thighs followed by the abdomen. In men the most common area is the flank or “love handle” region. Other areas commonly treated include: the face, neck, upper arms, upper and lower abdomen, lower back, hips, thighs inner and outer, sides of the knees, and lower legs. It is uncommon to treat all of these areas at one time (if all areas were involved weight loss may be a better option). Usually there are only a few regions that require Tumescent Liposuction.

91) How do I prepare for Tumescent Liposuction surgery?

Tumescent Liposuction preparation requires avoiding medicines that can cause bleeding. Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and many arthritis medications interfere with platelet function and must be stopped 2 weeks before surgery. Many cold, sinus, and other medications contain these drugs and must also be stopped. Vitamin E interferes with the blood clotting factors from Vitamin K. If applicable, stop taking Vitamin E at least 3-4 weeks before surgery. Cigarette smoking can hinder wound healing, so please stop at least 3 weeks before your operation.

To avoid ingrown hairs, don’t shave or remove hair near the regions to be sculpted the day of surgery. You will not be able to eat after midnight in order to arrive with an empty stomach the morning of surgery. You will be able to take your medications with a small sip of water that morning. Check with your cosmetic surgeon about any medications that you will be taking. Wear loose fitting clothing that opens in the front or pulls over easily; this will make it easier to dress over your pressure garment and dressings.

92) How is the recovery time for Tumescent Liposuction?

Tumescent Liposuction leaves local anesthetic solution in the tissues providing greater comfort after surgery than the older techniques. This prolonged relief can be of value in cases done under general anesthesia or sedation. Once this wears off, however, most patients experience some discomfort that is usually easily managed with some oral medication for a few days.

You may weigh more, about the same, or less right after surgery. Some of this is from the extra fluids used during the Tumescent technique that you will urinate over the next day or so. Some weight will be from the fluid of tissue swelling. How much and where depends on what was done. Since there is less bruising and bleeding from Tumescent Liposuction, there is less blood to be absorbed and irritate tissues. The lack of this irritation means that the swelling goes down much faster.

After sedation or general anesthesia, eat lightly at first to avoid an upset stomach. Drinking some extra liquids will help your body adjust its fluid balance. Since there is a lot of fluid injected during Tumescent Liposuction, some does leak out of the tiny wounds after surgery. This is normal and should end within a week. Using feminine pads or dressings to catch this liquid is an effective way to deal with this minor inconvenience. You can resume showering by the second day after surgery.

Tumescent Liposuction results in a rapid improvement of your shape. Most of the swelling goes down within 10 days but part of the result is from the contraction of tissue that has been treated. Although patients see a dramatic improvement within 7-14 days, it will take 3 to 4 months to see most of the changes in your contour.

93) When can I resume my work and activities?

You will need to limit your activity for the first couple of days – no strenuous exercise, lifting or bending over. Avoid any type of aerobic exercise (any activity that raises your pulse above 90) for at least three weeks. That much work may increase your swelling. Many are able to return to work almost immediately. It depends on what you do and the activity level of your job. Resumption of activities also depends on the extent of your Tumescent Liposuction, your health, and how you heal. In general the discomfort lessens significantly in 2-4 days. Stabilizing your tissues in a special girdle (garment) increases your comfort and ability to get around.

ULTRASONIC ASSISTED LIPOSUCTION

94) Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction. What is it?

Ultrasonic Liposuction, or UAL, is a procedure that uses high-pitched sound waves to liquefy fat in a specific area before it is removed. UAL is a type of Liposuction that is primarily used for fat removal in hard-to-treat areas such as the chin, neck, cheeks, knees, calves and ankles. It usually serves as an addition to Tumescent Liposuction for patients who require more precise body contouring.

95) How do I know whether or not I am a candidate for Ultrasonic Liposculpture?

Traditional Tumescent Liposuction has been very effective in young patients with mild to moderate amounts of fat. Ultrasonic Liposuction expanded the number of patients suitable for body sculpting. This includes patients with larger amounts of fat and less elastic skin tone. It also allows surgeons to treat areas not easily or effectively treated in past years. This would include fibrous areas such as the back, male breast and upper abdomen. A physical examination is required in order to verify whether you are a candidate for this procedure.

96) What medical conditions might exclude me from being a candidate?

A patient needs to be in good medical condition in order to undergo this or other elective procedures. A patient should have the ability to heal incisions and adequately fight infections, and no medical contraindications such as a heart or lung disease. Heavier patients are now candidates for this type of procedure; however, obese patients with medical contraindications are not candidates. Patients with excessive amounts of redundant skin are not candidates for this procedure.

97) What sets Ultrasonic Liposuction apart from traditional Tumescent Liposuction?

What makes this so unique is the ability to gently liquefy or emulsify the fat without injuring the adjacent structures. This is a non-mechanical method of dissolving the fat that also appears to tighten the skin. There has been less blood loss, less bruising and decreased tissue trauma observed. Ultrasonic Liposuction allows us to also removed fat in areas that were preciously unable to have Liposuction such as the back, upper abdomen and male breast.

98) What is Internal Ultrasonic Liposuction?

Ultrasonic Liposuction, (Ultrasound Assisted Lipoplasty) or “Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction” (U.A.L.) is a technique of Liposuction where the fatty tissue is removed with the assistance of sound waves which are beyond the range of human hearing. Because the sound waves are doing the work the surgeon is able to more precisely guide the cannula. This increases safety. The Ultrasonic energy is targeted to fat cells and creates less damage to other tissues such as nerves, blood vessels and muscles.

99) What Areas of the Body Does UAL Treat?

Ultrasonic Liposuction can be used in all areas that traditional Liposuction treats, but it works especially well on areas that require more precision. The stomach, midsection or “love handles,” male breast tissue, chin, and neck all respond well to UAL, as do areas that have been previously treated with Liposuction but are in need of further contouring.

100) How can the plastic surgeon see what his doing?

The Ultrasonic Liposuction equipment is highly sophisticated. The fat is dissolved by the Ultrasonic waves that are emitted from the end of a cannula. This liquefied fat is then gently aspirated away. While endoscopic techniques have been utilized to inspect the areas in which the fat has been removed, it is not necessary on a routine basis. This is because the results are immediately visible, just as when ice or snow melts in the sun.

101) How do I decide whether to have Liposuction-Liposculpture, or Ultrasonic Liposuction?

The surgeon should review his experience with the various methods and analyze your body type. Some surgeons may advise Ultrasonic Liposuction for large volume extractions, especially in tough areas such as the back, flanks and hips. It was designed principally for the hard to extract deep fat and to reduce surgeon fatigue. External Ultrasonic energy can be applied and is recommended by some surgeons before or after the fat is removed by regular Liposuction. Ultrasonic Liposuction must ordinarily be combined with traditional Liposuction when deep and surface fat is being removed. This does add to the operating time or to the cost of the surgery and may offer no advantage for most surgeons. For gynecomastia (large breasts in the male), some experts advocate the sole use of Ultrasonic Liposuction but it should not be used aggressively near the nipple skin.

102) How the Ultrasonic Liposuction Procedure is done?

UAL is a form of Liposuction that uses Ultrasonic sound waves to essentially “melt” fat deposits into a liquid state. When combined with the injected Tumescent fluid, the liquid fat emulsifies, making its removal much easier.

Tumescent Fluid Injections

The first step in the Ultrasonic Liposuction procedure is the injection of Tumescent fluid, which is a mixture of anesthetic, salt water solution, and epinephrine, into the area being treated. This helps prevent fluid loss during the fat removal process and makes the deposits easier to remove.

Ultrasonic Sound Waves Liquefy Fat

During Ultrasonic Liposuction, fat removal is initiated by sound waves produced by a generator. The Ultrasonic waves are transmitted to a thin, vacuum-like tube, called a cannula. When the cannula comes into contact with the fat cells, they quickly liquefy, and are easily vacuumed out.

103) How long has Ultrasonic Liposuction been available?

Ultrasonic Liposuction began in Europe in the early 90s and became popular in the United States in early 1997.

104) Does Ultrasonic Liposuction cost more?

Because of the added cost of the equipment, some of which is disposable, most plastic surgeons charge slightly higher fees for Ultrasonic Liposuction. Because Cosmetic Harmony often combines traditional and Ultrasonic Liposuction to obtain the maximum benefit for each patient, there is only minimal added cost.

105) How the Ultrasonic Liposuction Procedure is done?

UAL is a form of Liposuction that uses Ultrasonic sound waves to essentially “melt” fat deposits into a liquid state.
106) What are the Ultrasonic Liposuction risks?

Because a large amount of heat is created during Ultrasonic Liposuction, there is a greater risk of burns, blistering, and scarring. A UAL surgeon with Liposuction experience will know how to avoid this problem, but the danger should still be noted. Another risk is a condition called seroma, which occurs when the body tries to fill the void created by fat removal by producing excess fluid. This fluid must be removed continuously with a syringe until the cavity has closed.

LIPOSELECTION® / VASER®

107) What is the LipoSelection® developed by VASER®, and How this procedure is done?

VASER® Liposuction emulsifies fat prior to removal, facilitating the Liposuction process and reducing pain and tissue damage. LipoSelection® uses an ultrasound probe to break up fat before it is removed. This type of Liposuction reduces pain and results in a faster healing time.

LipoSelection®, developed by VASER®, is an Ultrasonic (UAL) Liposuction procedure, meaning it uses Ultrasonic energy as a means of fat removal. The ultrasound technology breaks up and emulsifies the fat that is to be removed. Unlike other fat removal methods, LipoSelection® leaves the surrounding nerves, blood vessels, and tissue virtually unharmed. After a local anesthetic is applied, the surgeon will fill the area to be treated with a saline wetting solution to numb the site and shrink blood vessels. This helps minimize post-surgical bruising and swelling. A small probe emitting high frequency sound energy is used to break up fat on contact with minimal damage to surrounding tissues. Fat may then be easily extracted with Liposuction tubes.

108) What areas of the body can LipoSelection® Treat?

The level of precision and safety LipoSelection® provides allows physicians to sculpt and shape delicate areas of the body, such as the arms, chin, neck and inner thighs. VASER® Liposuction can remove fat from any area treatable with traditional Liposuction techniques: abdomen, thighs, buttocks, knees, hips, back, arms, male breasts, love handles, chin and neck areas. Because LipoSelection® does not harm the tissues surrounding the treated area, patients experience only minimal bruising.

109) What is the benefit of getting a LipoSelection® procedure done?

This proprietary method by VASER® is considered an advanced Liposuction method in terms of both precision and diminished pain for the patient. LipoSelection® uses ultrasound technology to emulsify fat prior to removal. The liquefied fat can then be removed with ease, leaving surrounding tissue relatively undamaged. Not only will you experience less bruising and swelling following surgery, LipoSelection® is less painful than traditional Liposuction. This is because the sensitive nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue beneath your skin will remain largely undisturbed during the procedure.

110) Is there any type of Risks about LipoSelection® I should know?

The risks of VASER® Liposuction are very similar to the Liposuction risks associated with any other method. However, because LipoSelection® minimizes damage to other body tissues, patients typically experience less pain and fewer side effects than with other forms of Liposuction. Serious Liposuction complications are quite rare. Fat clots or blood clots may form, and there is a chance these will migrate to the lungs and cause serious illness. The fluid loss that results from Liposuction will be anticipated by a qualified doctor, as it can cause low blood pressure, friction burns, or fluid buildup. The LipoSelection® probe’s ultrasound energy may injure the skin or deeper tissues, although in most cases the benefits of the ultrasound system make it safer than traditional Liposuction. If a doctor inexperienced with the LipoSelection® procedure applies too much fluid, the wetting solution may collect in the lungs. If there is too much lidocaine in the Liposuction solution, lidocaine toxicity may develop.

PAL (POWER ASSISTED LIPOSUCTION)

111) What is PAL (Power Assisted Liposuction)?

PAL uses a powerized cannula which moves back and forth through the fat tissue in a rapid motion. PAL is not Ultrasonic. No heat is generated to harm healthy tissues. With PAL, less force is required to remove unwanted fat, especially in areas of more fibrous tissue. That makes the procedure easier on both patients and surgeons.

112) Who can be treated with power assisted Liposuction?

Both men and women can benefit from Power Assisted Liposculpture. Weight and age restrictions have been lifted. Most patients who have localized fatty deposits, are within thirty pounds of their ideal weight, and have been stable at that weight for years.

113) Who are the best candidates for PAL?

The best candidates are as follows:

• have firm, elastic skin and are in good health;
• have tried diet, exercise and weight loss programs;
• have disproportionate fat deposits in their body;
• have realistic expectations; and
• don’t expect liposuction to change their lives dramatically.

114) Which areas of the body are most frequently treated with PAL?

The most frequent areas treated by PAL in men are the “love handles,” breasts, abdomen and neckline. In women they include: thighs, hips, buttocks (saddle bags), stomach, knees, lower leg, ankles, jowls, and chins. Some women elect to have their fat recycled. Through a procedure called lipo-augmentation, their fat is transferred to other parts of their body, like their lips, for example.

Both saline-filled and silicone gel-filled breast implants have risks that all patients should be aware of. Along with all of the other side effects, a rupture can cause more surgery and increase health risks.

Breast implants both saline and silicone have been approved by the FDA, and are considered safe to use. Maintaining safety includes annual checkups with your surgeon, self exams, annual MRIs, as well as possible replacement years later.

After the patient decides for breast enlargement, she must be fully aware of the risks and side effects of having a foreign object in the body.

Scar tissue that hardens and distorts, called capsular contracture, can occur. If this occurs, then the patient may have to undergo more surgery. The individual may also have increased pain in their breast or decreased nipple sensation. An additional risk that occurs often is that of a leak.

Silicone Leak:

If the individual’s silicone gel-filled implants rupture, silicone gel leaks outside of the silicone shell. Silicone leaks can be intracapsular or contained within the scar tissue surrounding the implant. It can also be extracapsular which means the silicone leaks outside the scar tissue.

At times, silicone ruptures are difficult to detect with a mammogram alone. It is possible that the person could have a silent rupture meaning you will not have any outward signs of the leak. While some women experience subtle changes in the size, shape or contour, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is usually necessary to identify any problems and to determine if it is intracapsular or extracapsular.

Because intracapsular can become extracapsular if not addressed in a timely manner, a cosmetic surgeon will usually recommend that ruptured implants be removed and replaced. Because silicone leaks can be difficult to detect by just a physical examination, women with enlargement are encouraged to have MRI exams every two years, starting a few years after surgery. These exams might not be covered by health insurance.

Most women with silicone gel-filled breast implants will have at least one broken within ten years of the plastic surgery procedure.

Saline Ruptures:

If a saline rupture, saline leaks out of the shell. A problem will be very obvious because your breast implant will become deflated, changing in size and shape as the saline solution leaks outside the shell and into the rest of your body. Most of the time, leaked saline solution is easily and safely absorbed by the body if detected earlier.

If an individual later chooses removal, they may experience dimpling, puckering, wrinkling or other changes of the breast. Depending on many factors including incision technique used, breast implants may affect your ability to produce milk for breast-feeding, especially if there is a rupture.

In Case of Rupture:

If your implant leaks or breaks, the plastic surgeon will need to remove it with surgery. This procedure can typically be completed through the same small incisions cut during the initial surgery. Most of the time, the individual can have a new device inserted during the same surgery.

The procedure usually is straightforward, but at times leaking silicone gel can be difficult to remove. The surgeon may require more extensive cosmetic surgery. Additionally, health insurance may not cover implant removal or replacement and therefore you may be out of pocket quite a bit of money.

It always advisable to have the surgery performed by a board certified plastic surgeon to lessen any problems through the skill of an experienced and well trained surgeon.

With more than 300,000 women every year choosing breast augmentation surgery (according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, access to accurate information about the risks of the procedure has become increasingly important.

Breast augmentation has all the same risks as any other type of surgery. The best cosmetic surgeons place a high priority on patient education and will be happy to explain them. Before having your procedure, you will be asked to sign a Patient Consent Form which lists the possible complications. This is a legal requirement, to make sure that you understand what the risks are.

Risks vs. Side Effects

After any surgery there are always some temporary side effects which may be uncomfortable. They can be well-managed if you follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions. They are in inevitable result of having a surgery, or having the skin incised and something done to the tissue beneath.

Breast augmentation incisions are made at the location you and your cosmetic surgeon decided upon. At that location on each side, there will be scarring and this also is not a complication. It is the body healing itself after surgery.

Immediate Side Effects

In the days following surgery there will be some breast soreness and sensitivity, bruising and swelling. These are not complications. They are inevitable side effects and will resolve by themselves as long as you follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions.

True Complications
A true complication requires immediate attention beyond what is planned for your follow-up visits or laid out in your post-operative instructions.

· An allergic reaction to the anesthesia can be life-threatening and dealing with it is the responsibility of your anesthesiologist. Whenever general anesthesia is used, your vital signs must be monitored and not until you are determined to be fully awake and alert are you allowed to go home. Because your anesthesiologist monitors you throughout your surgery, he or she will immediately detect any allergic reaction and will take steps to neutralize it.

· Excessive bleeding needs to be stopped

· Infection needs an antibiotic or other treatment

· Blood clots require treatment to prevent them breaking loose, traveling in the blood stream and eventually blocking the lungs (known as a pulmonary embolism)

· A long-term change in the sensitivity of the nipples or skin may or may not be treatable.

Ways to Minimize Breast Augmentation Risks

Your own actions are part of protecting yourself from potential complications.

· Choose your surgeon carefully. Look for board certification and investigate the number of years of experience in this specialty. Read a list of questions to ask surgeons you are considering.

· Check out the facility where you’ll undergo the procedure. Verify the credentials of your anesthesiologist and other personnel involved.

· Tell your doctor about any past or present medical conditions, and about all prescribed or over-the-counter medicines and herbal supplements you are taking.

· Closely follow your surgeon’s instructions before and after your surgery. For example, your doctor may ask you to stop taking certain medications several days prior to or after the procedure.

· Give yourself plenty of time to heal.

As with any surgery, there are many decisions to be made when considering breast augmentation.

The desire for natural, healthy looking and feeling breasts is one of the most commonly sought after physical characteristics for women of all ages across the world.

Many women feel that small breasts prohibit their sense of femininity and are at a stage where they would consider undertaking the process of breast implant surgery in order to achieve the size and shape of breast that they need to look and feel great.

In weighing up the risks and benefits associated with breast enlargement, it is important to assess the nature and degree of change required by each individual patient. While all surgical procedures present a degree of risk in their successes, limitations and potential complications, it is important to be fully informed before any surgery is undertaken. Cosmetic side effects can include a varying level of scarring around the area where the implant incision has been made. This scarring can be virtually invisible but in some patients a raised area of skin may form and become more noticeable. The majority of women find that only minimal scarring is created as a result of the procedure and that the overall improvements in their sense of happiness and well-being far outweigh the negative impact of minimal scar tissue formation. Concerted post-operative care ensures that the best possible result is achieved in order to give you the body you want from the beginning.

While there is an inevitable degree of discomfort associated with the immediate aftermath of breast enlargement surgery this can be easily controlled with medication whilst in treatment and at home.

Breast augmentation through silicone breast implants as well as breast lifts and reshaping are all treatments that your breast augmentation surgeon can offer you to maximise your level of self esteem and provide you with the body you have always wanted.

If you are considering going under the knife, you should be under no illusions about the risks involved. Even the most minor of operations can have complications or have things go wrong. Even in countries with strong regulation, there are cases of incompetent doctors being struck off after botching cosmetic surgery procedures and so if problems happen abroad in a country where English is not widely spoken, your cosmetic surgery experience could rapidly turn into a nightmare.

The biggest complaint of cosmetic surgery is that the end result is not what the patient had envisaged. Many people will also experience scarring, wrinkled or puckered skin, or oddly shaped body parts. In some extreme cases, further surgery may be required to correct defects which happen due to the original surgery. These complications may mean you need to spend more money, and this is something which can be difficult to arrange aboard.

Many people are opting to go abroad for their plastic surgery – not only do they get a holiday, they are away from their friends and family so they cannot see what they have had done, and the costs are often far cheaper than in their home country. However, in many places that are rapidly becoming medical tourist hotspots, the cosmetic surgery industry is not well regulated.

So, if you are planning on becoming a medical tourist, what is the best way to go about it? Generally speaking, countries at the more expensive end of the scale (UK, US, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Spain etc) will be well-regulated and there will be less chance of having a poor surgeon. As you start to go towards the cheaper end of the scale, more caution is needed.

ComseticSurgeryBible.com’s top tips are:

1. Rely on word of mouth and make sure the recommendations are impartial. Do not be fooled by sleek advertising – do your research thoroughly. Adverts can be incredibly misleading.
2. Never look for surgery on price alone. If something looks much cheaper than anywhere else, steer well clear. Check what is included in the price – some prices may be for surgery alone and not take post-operative expenses into account. You don’t want to be hit with a surprise bill during your recovery!
3. Check that your prospective surgeon is qualified and certified. Try and establish the credentials of the board that issued his certificates.
4. Ensure your prospective surgeon speaks good English, or has a good translator on hand – you will want to know exactly what will happen to you, and the surgeon should be able to answer all your questions
5. Insist on a face-to-face consultation with the surgeon before agreeing to any procedure. This will help make sure you have full faith in the surgeon before he operates – if you have any doubts, do not go ahead with surgery
6. Check what post-operative care is available. Check how often the surgeon will see you and if you will require any check-ups in the future. Ask what happens if you experience any complications once you get home. Ask if you need to return for further operations whether the surgeon will do them free of charge.

Just because the name includes the word “plastic” doesn’t mean patients who have this surgery end up with a face full of fake stuff. The name isn’t taken from the synthetic substance but from the Greek word plastikos, which means to form or mold (and which gives the material plastic its name as well).

Plastic surgery is a special type of surgery that can involve both a person’s appearance and ability to function. Plastic surgeons strive to improve patients’ appearance and self-image through both reconstructive and cosmetic procedures.

Plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery treatments require educated decision-making. You need to know who are the best candidates for each plastic surgery procedure, the recovery time after plastic surgery and appropriate expectations.

Plastic Surgery Costs

Cost is an important factor in one’s choice to pursue plastic surgery. Plastic Surgery Costs can determine whether or not now is the right time for you to pursue a certain cosmetic change, or whether a particular doctor is the right one to perform it. Plastic Surgery Costs and fees can steer you towards or away from a beneficial combination of procedures and treatments. Sometimes we decide against a promising aesthetic improvement because the price is too high. Other times we choose an inexperienced surgeon because the price is surprisingly low. There’s a lot to understand when researching costs, and quite a bit to consider.

Benefits of plastic surgery

Plastic surgery is currently experiencing unprecedented popularity with continuing advancements of technologies for the diverse array of procedures. This has inevitably led to superior results with reduced complications and side effects, leading to a higher degree of customer satisfaction. Consequently more and more people are feeling the immense benefits from improving their image through plastic surgery.

The great thing about plastic surgery is that the benefits can be both physical and emotional, both external and internal. But the prevailing opinion is that plastic surgery and operations for instance to reduce breast size have little real health benefit and demand for them is based on vanity.

The Risks of Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery, like any procedure, carries with it some degree of risk. Complications are rare, but they do occur. Modern procedures have greatly diminished most risks. However, these complications might be enhanced if you have certain health conditions, such as diabetes.

In order to curtail these risks, it is important that you choose an experienced plastic surgeon that has a proven track record of success with minimal complications. The surgeons we have chosen to be a part of The Cosmetic Surgery Directory are committed to using the latest technology to ensure your safety.

What are the disadvantages for plastic surgery?

You may choose an inexperienced doctor, or like some have, with a dentist that has been trained to do minor surgeries (I’m not joking, this has happened and people have died). The scars may not heal properly or may not heal at all. They may have trouble stopping the bleeding, the scars may be crooked, you may turn out looking nothing like you planned to, you may become addicted to the surgeries. Make sure you have a licensed plastic surgeon with experience. Do your research. Don’t go for cheap when you’re having any kind of surgery. You could die!!

In the old days, if anyone wanted to change his physical appearance, unless it was weight loss, there was very little that he could actually do. Nowadays, thanks to medical technology, people who know that their self esteem would be much improved if they could change their physical appearance, have more options. One of the most popular options is “Plastic Surgery or Cosmetic Surgery”. Plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery has got much attention over the years. Plastic surgery is a term used for operative manual or instrumental treatment. This surgery is performed for functional or aesthetic reasons.

Plastic surgery affects people on the physical and psychological level. We make ourselves more physically beautiful with clothes, hairstyles, and cosmetics; plastic surgery, or changing features of the body to make it more appealing is taking it to the next level. People want attention; they want to be looked at and want to leave impressions. However, the most memorable features are those that are either beautiful or ugly, and not the ones in between. Given this dichotomy of memory, people would rather be remembered as beautiful rather than ugly. Plastic surgery is one option for those who feel that they are somehow unattractive, and is a way to correct that.

However, there is another side of plastic surgery as well. There are many risks involved with plastic surgery like excessive bleeding, blood clots, nerve damage, anesthesia risks, infection and much more which need to be considered before a surgical procedure. Because of this reason, it is almost imperative to choose the right plastic surgeon. Anyone with a medical degree and a valid license to practice medicine can call himself a plastic surgeon. You need to do your research to ensure that the doctor you are interested in is really a plastic surgeon and one that you feel comfortable with. Check whether he or she has a plastic surgeon’s certification and experience. You can check with the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) online to verify their status. Do yourself a favor and take precautions and make sure you have the answers before having plastic surgery.

Thinking about getting a TUMMY TUCK OR MINI TUMMY TUCK HERE??? Here you will find the answers, tips, and 100’s of FAQ.

ARTICLE #4

61) Is there any complications associated with Tummy Tuck surgery?

There are potential complications that are associated with every type of surgery, including Tummy Tuck surgery. However, many of the complications associated with Tummy Tucks, as stated below, can be avoided or minimized if you closely follow all of your surgeon’s instructions. The complications include:

Blood clots (further details are below);
Infection (further details are below);
Delayed wound healing (further details are below);
Anesthesia reactions;
Aspiration pneumonia;
Bleeding; and
Unfavorable drug reactions.

Blood Clots

For Tummy Tuck patients, one of the risks that should be considered as a remote possibility is blood clots. Any surgery that involves the use of general anesthesia for longer than 30 minutes carries a slightly elevated risk of causing internal blood clots. Although blood clotting is your body’s natural way of controlling the amount of blood loss that occurs after an injury, blood clots can become dangerous. When a blood clot forms inside a blood vessel, it can interfere with your circulation; in rare cases, it can break off and travel to other parts of your body, including the lungs, the brain, and the heart.

During your initial consultation, you will be asked to provide a medical history and other information that will help your surgeon determine whether you are at an increased risk of developing blood clots following surgery. For women, if you are taking birth control pills, talk to your doctor about the possibility of discontinuing their use while you are preparing for and recovering from surgery. Studies have indicated that taking birth control pills while undergoing major surgery may increase the risk of complications resulting from blood clots. Your surgeon should also be made aware of all medications you are taking prior to performing the surgery. Hormone replacement therapy and some forms of cancer treatment can increase the likelihood of clotting. People over 40, people with heart problems, and women who have recently been pregnant also face higher levels of risk regarding the formation of blood clots.

The timeline for developing blood clots after Tummy Tuck surgery can vary, but the risk is usually greatest during the first few days following surgery. Surgeons sometimes employ compression stockings and pre- or post-operative leg massages to decrease the risk of blood clots forming in the legs. Your surgeon may advise you to take short, gentle walks around the room within a day or two of your surgery to prevent blood from clotting in your thighs and calves. You should begin taking short walks outside your home a week after the surgery is performed. Although some movement is helpful and will actually speed your recovery, too much exertion, particularly before your stitches have been removed, can be hazardous to your health. Avoid all heavy lifting and vigorous activities such as jogging or rough-and-tumble sports for a minimum of four to six weeks after surgery.

Infections

Qualified surgeons will take every precaution to prevent infection during a surgical procedure. A careful surgeon keeps his or her operating room clean, sterile, and relatively warm. Contrary to popular opinion, a patient in a cold operating room is actually more likely to experience an infection than a patient in a room-temperature or slightly warm operating room.

Most infections following Abdominoplasty result from the failure of patients to care properly for their wounds during the Tummy Tuck recovery process. It is important that you closely follow your doctor’s instructions on when to remove or change bandages, when it is safe to expose your wound to water, and how to keep your wound clean. Some bleeding and leakage are normal after major surgery, but if your wound is unclean, you risk infection.

The early signs of infection include fever, chills, and sweating. If the area around your incision begins to produce pus or if the liquid draining from the incision has a greenish tint or is draining too steadily, then you should contact your doctor immediately. Infections are treatable using increased drainage and antibiotics. The presence of an infection will prolong the time needed to recover from a Tummy Tuck operation. Delayed healing can sometimes cause more prominent scarring following an Abdominoplasty. Because of the risks of infection, if you develop a cold or any other form of temporary illness, your surgery will most likely be postponed.

Slow Healing

Any patient recovering from an Abdominoplasty will heal at his or her own pace. There are, however, specific risks that are higher in Tummy Tuck patients whose incisions heal at a particularly slow rate.

Young patients who are in good physical condition prior to undergoing surgery are expected to heal faster than older or less physically fit individuals. The tenderness, bruising, pain, and swelling that are experienced to some degree by most patients usually pass after about four to six weeks. Patients who continue to experience severe discomfort after six weeks have passed are considered to be healing slowly. In many patients, the healing of the abdomen does not proceed at a uniform rate. Often the operation site will heal a few weeks later than the outlining sections of the surgical wound. In rare cases, this irregular healing may lead to skin loss. Some areas of the skin may undergo a rapid and complete recovery, while the skin around the areas that are slow to heal may die and have to be surgically removed and replaced with a graft. In addition to the increased level of discomfort, patients who experience these complications after a Tummy Tuck procedure may suffer from more prominent scarring. Surgical revision is often an option for patients who are unhappy with their Tummy Tuck surgery results because of slow healing.

Many factors can slow the body’s natural healing process. Exposure to cigarette smoke decreases the size of the blood vessels in your skin. Larger blood vessels allow for better circulation of oxygen to your skin cells. The cells of a smoker’s skin are sluggish to heal because they are slightly more oxygen starved than the skin cells of a non-smoker. The presence of infection can also slow healing because it diverts the body’s immune resources away from closing your incisions. Carefully follow all pre- and post-operative instructions that you receive from your doctor and inform your doctor of your medical history, any medications you are taking, and the level of physical exertion that you are accustomed to. After the surgery has been performed, contact your doctor immediately if you suspect your site of incision may have become infected or may not be healing properly. Experiencing complications after a Tummy Tuck surgery really is rare, and with good patient-surgeon communication, most patients enjoy positive surgical results and a smooth recovery process.

Other Medical Problems

It’s a good idea to discuss your plan to undergo Tummy Tuck surgery with your personal physician or family doctor if you haven’t already. Any medical problems that you have should be taken into careful account by your family physician and your cosmetic surgeon before Abdominoplasty surgery. Your cosmetic surgeon will also take your complete medical history and conduct a thorough physical examination as a part of your pre-operative preparation. Because of the risk of infection, should you develop a cold, flu, or other temporary illness, your surgery will most likely be postponed.

Medications

Be sure to tell your surgeon about any and all medications or herbal supplements that you’re taking. Many medicines and even vitamins that are normally good for your body may be unhealthy for a person who is about to undergo surgery. Your doctor will tell you to discontinue the use of any substances that may decrease your body’s ability to recover from surgery two weeks before your tummy tuck. As noted previously, Vitamin E can interfere with the body’s blood clotting response, causing increased bleeding during surgery. The same is true of aspirin and some NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). The use of birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy, and some forms of post-cancer treatment medication may also involve an increased risk of complications during or after surgery. Use of these types of medications may, by contrast, produce an increased risk of developing dangerous internal blood clots that can in rare cases lead to embolism. Many cosmetic surgeons recommend a daily vitamin C supplement in the weeks leading up to your surgery while some recommend the use of a multivitamin that does not contain vitamin E. Consult your surgeon about the use of nutrition supplements prior to surgery. Remember to fill any pain medication prescriptions and bring them with you on the day of your surgery to avoid any unnecessary post-operative discomfort.

PREGNANCY AND TUMMY TUCK

62) Is it better to do a Tummy Tuck before or after pregnancy?

A Tummy Tuck is usually performed after childbearing has been completed; however, some women may be considered candidates for tummy tucks even before childbearing. A patient may still have children after a tummy tuck, but abdominal stretching during pregnancy may offset much of the benefit of the procedure. Further abdominal contouring procedures may be recommended after childbirth.

A patient who has lost large amounts of weight, for example, may have substantial overhanging skin of the lower abdomen. If she plans on pregnancy in only the distant future, the advantages of doing a Tummy Tuck may outweigh the disadvantages. This would also be the case for women with undesirable scarring on the lower abdomen from previous surgeries (such as a C-section). A mini Tummy Tuck may sometimes be advisable even if future pregnancies are planned.

63) What about pregnancy? Can I get pregnant after a mini Tummy Tuck procedure without affecting its result?

In most cases (not all cases), women considering Abdominoplasty should not be considering additional pregnancies, or they may have the need for a second procedure to re-tighten the belly.

64) I had a full Tummy Tuck operation 3- yrs ago, I did not want any more babies. I have just found out I am pregnant with twins. I am worried I may not be able to stretch enough for the babies? What will happen?

Congratulations on the pregnancy. Your muscles will stretch and no harm will come to the babies, but a lot of what was done at the original surgery may be undone. You may require another procedure in the future.

65) I am an attractive 30 yr. old woman but after 3 c-sections my lower abdomen is poochy and beginning to sag. Would liposuction work on this or would I need to get a tummy tuck?

It sounds as though there is excessive skin and muscle laxity which liposuction will not help. A full Abdominoplasty would be the best procedure for you depending upon skin excess.

66) I am thin but have a pouch from pregnancy. What would you suggest in my case?

Mini tummy tucks are indicated when there is not a lot of loose skin or stretch marks and only the part of the abdomen below the navel protrudes. It can be combined with mid-section liposuction for greater results.

67) Can I have a baby even though my belly button was moved during a Tummy Tuck last year?

A Tummy Tuck will not interfere with having a baby; however, pregnancy may undo some of the benefit of the tummy tuck.

68) Can I have a Tummy Tuck procedure during a C-Section or Natural Delivery?

Having a Tummy Tuck procedure during a C-section or natural delivery is not recommended. We strongly advise you not to conduct such an operation. A woman’s hormones have changed tissues so the child can pass. There is much stress on the body during delivery. Distended tissues have not yet shown what laxity will remain. There is a new born child wanting care and attention.

69) What will I look like after my pregnancy? Do I need a Tummy Tuck to get my abs back?

For most women, tissues recover nicely – just how much depends on many factors. Multiple pregnancies will significantly stretch tissue, so will weight gain while pregnant. How you heal is also a factor that will affect your final look. For those who remain with stretched tissues, Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty after pregnancy has much to offer.

PERSONAL ISSUES CONCERNING TUMMY TUCK / ABDOMINOPLASTY

70) I had a Tummy Tuck in 2000 and then I had to have a hysterectomy. The cut made for the hysterectomy was on top of the previous scar from the tummy tuck. It left a terrible purple, wide scar. Would a scar revision fix this problem?

A scar revision is all that is needed. Both scars would be removed and a new scar made which would, likely, heal in an acceptable manner, much like after your first procedure.

71) I have many large stretch marks on my abdomen and hip area. I would like to get a tummy tuck, but I am thin and have a minimal amount of skin to pull. What do you recommend, should I see a reconstructive surgeon?

If your goal is to remove the stretch marks this is difficult to achieve particular in the hip region. The abdominal marks may be removed by an excision of some of the affected skin as part of a “mini or full” Tummy Tuck or some variation of such. A consultation with a surgeon would be necessary to determine if anything would help. A much faster option is to send at least 3 pictures of the areas you want reconstructed and Cosmetic Harmony will help you to achieve your goals.

72) What about my stretch marks? Can a Tummy Tuck remove them?

In many cases, a Tummy Tuck does help rid of stretch marks because it removes most of the “stretched out” skin below the navel.

73) I’m interested in Abdominoplasty. If I have stretch marks all over my lower abdomen and above the navel area, would I still have stretch marks after the surgery?

After your Abdominoplasty, the stretch marks that are now above your navel will be repositioned well below it and therefore much less objectionable; however, not all will be gone.

74) Is there a surgery that can completely remove severe stretch marks? If so, where can I get this done?

No. There is no laser or any other procedure that allows for complete removal of stretch marks. If they are on the abdomen and a Tummy Tuck is otherwise needed, many can be removed in this manner.

75) What is the best non-surgical way to get rid of deep stretch marks caused by rapid weight gain during pregnancy?

If the stretch marks are red, they can be reduced with a laser. They tend to progress to white anyway and these are very poorly treated by laser, DermaPeel, dermabrasion, etc. If you have a lot of excess skin, a tummy tuck procedure can be performed to surgically remove the stretch marks. All other treatments may improve deep stretch marks by 10% to 15% at best.

76) I also have skin which hangs over the sides of my hips. Can a Tummy Tuck fix that too?

If you have excess skin and fat which hangs over your hips, you should consider the lower body lift procedure. The body lift includes an outer thigh lift and buttock lift, in addition to the tummy tuck. Please see those sections on Cosmetic Harmony’s website (www.cosmeticharmony.com) for photos and more information.

77) Can sagging skin on upper thighs be corrected at the same time as tummy tuck?

Absolutely, both the abdomen and the thighs can be addressed during the same operation. However, this is a rather lengthy surgery and patients must be in excellent health to withstand both operations at once.

78) Will my waist line be affected by a Tummy Tuck procedure?

Yes. As an added benefit of the tummy tuck, not only will the abdominal region be firmer and flatter, but the waist will be smaller as well.

79) I have become increasing distressed about my burgeoning breast size. I would also like to have a waist again. Can I have a breast and Tummy Tuck procedure?

Yes, you can have both cosmetic surgeries performed; however, it’s recommended that if the Tummy Tuck is a circumferential or 360 Tummy Tuck, the surgeries will not be conducted at the same time, but split into two surgeries ranging a few months apart.

80) Is Abdominoplasty a good way to lose weight?

No. Diet and exercise are the best means of removing unwanted fat, and a healthy lifestyle is an important factor. However, some people find that no matter how careful they are with food and however hard they exercise certain areas of fat are difficult to reduce or remove.
