Scarring That May Occur Due to Cosmetic Surgery

Everyone’s skin is different, and that has to be taken into consideration when deciding whether a certain procedure should be pursued or not.  The condition of the scarring also depends on the area of the body being operated on.  Some people will tell us that they scar badly, but really it was a bad scar from an obstetrical procedure down low in the belly in an area that typically does not heal well. Scarring, therefore, may not be a problem in other surgeries.

There are people who truly have problems with scarring, who form hypertrophic or keloid scars, and then it’s important to consider carefully what area we are operating on.  There are some areas that are more prone to forming bad scars, like the ears, the shoulders, and the chest, so these have to be taken into consideration.  For the most part, facial work is usually not an issue.  The face tends to heal very well, including on those people who claim that they scar poorly. But if they are true keloid formers, certainly they have to know that that’s a potential risk from their surgery.

With any surgical procedure, the risk of poor healing or a prominent scar is a reality, and in some situations, there are less invasive procedures that can be chosen. For people who do have problems with their wounds, certainly there are things that potentially can be done that are temporary but that can help them achieve their goals. These options will be discussed during their consultation.
