Cosmetic Surgery – Don’t Go for the Cheap Option

An old adage and certainly a saying with 100% accuracy; you get what you pay for, and this is a term that really does apply to every facet of life.

There have been many incidences in the media of late with reference to botched cosmetic surgery procedures and 9 times out of ten this seems to stem from paying too little and using unscrupulous surgeons who prey on the uniformed and the gullible.

A recent case saw an 18 year old girl paying for her dentist to perform breast augmentation surgery on her person. The dentist, it appears, had undergone some preliminary training in the area but never taken this to any advanced or highly academic level. This unfortunately was enough for him to be able to offer cosmetic surgery procedures of this kind with dire consequences. In fact 10 of his patients are now suing him for gross misconduct in the area.

The problem it seems is that many cosmetic surgeons offering their services and some working for seemingly well known, reputable companies have very little experience in the area of cosmetic surgery and are not accredited by either of the 2 noteworthy British cosmetic surgery associations (BAAPS & BAPRAS).

It really is crucial that you research any prospective Surgeon or cosmetic surgery company to ensure you will receive the best quality surgery and aftercare. You cannot guarantee this with a surgeon who is not accredited as they don’t have the strict regulation of association members.

Of the two associations, BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons) members will also be listed on the special register of plastic surgeons which is maintained by the General Medical Council. This is a good indicator of a surgeon’s competency as they will be struck off this list should they fail to deliver the correct level of care during and after the procedures they carry out.

If you are considering cosmetic surgery procedures in the UK such as breast augmentation you should seek an accredited surgeon who is registered with BAPRAS or BAAPS to ensure this plastic surgery runs smoothly.
